What stories do you create when you see images?
Do you know the story already or does your mind create a history for the image or make up a fantasy?
The beauty of creating in my art journal is that sometimes the image comes first, and sometimes the words. For me, it doesn’t matter, because it all comes from within me; it can’t be contained, so I get them outside of my mind, heart and spirit, so that I can view them outside of myself. They often tell me a great deal who I am and the world I live in.
What stories stay with you? What imagery draws you to it?
Think about it and tell your stories and show your imagery.
From my wildly passionate creative soul to yours in peace.

I just love the Freedom you express in your art and your process 🙂 How often do you go back and read what you wrote or do you do your writing and then end up covering some of it? So like are your journals more visual or a combination of a place to go back and reflect on your written words too?

Thanks so much for commenting Jill! It depends. If I’m going through a very trying period in my life, I will revisit those pages, when I’ve gotten through it. But I generally try to review at the end of a month. Often times, I can see patterns of behavior, which gives me a better understanding of myself. When I’m depressed, and come out of that cycle, I often go back and see where I started to spiral down and it helps me to see triggers; which have been the most helpful throughout the years of journaling. It has help modify a lot of behavior that wasn’t healthy! So this journaling has been the most amazingly healing process for me! It is a reflective process in varying aspects since the words and imagery invoke all kinds of meanings and feelings.

Mmm…words and images and stories and how they combine. You're talking about my favorite subject here! I also find that sometimes I have words–a phrase, a quote, or even a single word–and then the images come together around that, and sometimes the images come first. It's always a wonderful exploration in either case.

Love these pages! I know what you mean, I'm the same way. Sometimes the picture comes first and sometimes the words.

I love how you move your feelings and images out of yourself and move them on to your art journal. I think that is so important for processing; the really good stuff comes when I take what is inside and wrestle with it on the pages- either with words or images. Good food for thought!

Thank you for stopping by Melissa! I often feel like there is more room out, than there is in; so I try to get much of the feelings, images, thoughts, etc. out; since it helps me to grow and develop in so many ways!
