There is an advantage to a one-on-one workshop with an artist at their studio. You get the attention you need especially, if it's a whole new process you're learning. You get your answers quickly and on the spot and it takes your creativity up a whole other notch! I've been creating more elaborate art journals and falling more and more in love with book art and the making of books. I wanted to take my work to another level. I am always drawn to adding pieces to my paintings and book art, so imagine how thrilled I was to find out about Leslie Marsh and her work. Leslie was featured in many books, magazines and she has been creating books ... Continue Reading »

What’s In My Luggage and On My Studio Table?
Several weeks ago, on Seth Apter's Blog, "The Altered Page" he featured the studio/studio table, unedited, uncensored and unkempt. There were lots of links to other artists' studios too! I totally missed posting the ball on putting in my studio shots on his blog that week. But, I decided I would post my studio/studio table this week. So here's a few shots of the studio, studio table and my art luggage supplies. A view from the top of the Studio Table. When I'm on a deadline, commission or working on a series, I work on two tables. But, lately, I've been using one table. I've done a lot of work in the various art journals I keep, ... The Value of Freedom and Flexibility…
Freedom and flexibility are two of my highest values. I like to feel my life is free and off the clock (e.g., the same routine daily at work or eating the same thing every week does not appeal to me and it's hard to get me to commit to social outings.) Which is why I have the best of friends, they truly understand me! What I do invest in, is meeting deadlines; never being late and making plans (doesn't mean I always do them, but I meet them with enthusiasm and a "Can-do" attitude.) What I have found is that my number one value FREEDOM, does not work in creating art. With all the freedom of subject matter, materials and ideas, the ... Continue Reading »

Clearing the Way…
I like to imagine my clutter is comparative to how my life is, the less clutter I have, the more room I have to be open to possibilities. So, while my studio is not in need of cleaning, I am all about de-cluttering...all about creating space for the things I want in my life: new projects, new art, and loads of creativity. In the last couple of months, the de-cluttering bug has hit my studio. I decided to get rid of stuff, in which I stored paint and all manner of odds and ends, that were falling apart and replace them with sturdier pieces. Granted, there's only so much I can do in my studio, because of space limitations. Reorganization of ... Continue Reading »
Inspirational Fuel
I love winding down on Fridays, I look over my week's work and feel a sense of accomplishment and order. Did I get everything done? Nah...that never happens...that's what's so wonderful! I wake up in the morning, grateful for another day and I get to start all over again. The days, when I'm stumped or can't get the creative flow going, I look to my fuel packets...my art journals! :) I either create pages in my art journal or I look through art journals, I've created in the past and that usually gets me going. It's good to revisit my art journals from time-to-time. I especially look through all of them, at the end of the year. This year ... Continue Reading »
Debut From The Nookery – “Ala – Ibo Goddess”
Last week, she was just a pretty face, with a splash of blue in the background sitting on my easel. Voila, this week, she is making her debut. ALA, also spelled ALE, ALLA also known as ANE - Earth Mother Goddess of the Ibo tribe in Nigeria. Creator of the living and Queen of the dead. Provider of communal loyalty and Lawgiver of society. Her symbol is the crescent moon. She is still worshiped by the Ibo today, who pay tribute to her each year during the Yam festival. Ala is a part of my Goddess Series. I think this series may be ongoing for some time, since there are thousands of goddesses from all over the world clamoring for me to ... Continue Reading »
