This painting was created as part of my Winter Series. The winter season is filled with the browning of leaves, twigs, branches and the burrowing of small creatures. This piece invokes those colors and the variety of textures that winter has. There is beauty in brown nature!
Winter is often seen as a barren and desolate time. For many it brings darkness and melancholy. I wanted to create this series to bring light into this time, for me and others. Creating this series was my way of meditation on winter. It also was a way for me to experiment with encaustics, which really added to this series. I hope this piece brings as much light to you as it has to me.
This mixed-media original painting is a 10 x 10 x 1.5 inch birch wood panel. This painting was created with suede, leather, ribbon, thread, plaster, hemp cloth, mica, wood, photo, encaustic paint, and layers of vintage paper.
