Ten American Artists Are Showcased at U.S. Ambassador’s Residence in Skopje

Under the auspices of the State Department’s Art in Embassies Program, works by ten American artists are on view at the residence of U.S. Ambassador Gillian Milovanovic in Skopje, Macedonia. The exhibition pays homage to the artistic and political heritage of Pennsylvania as well the beauty of the American landscape. Encompassing late nineteenth century through the contemporary era, the featured works of art include paintings, prints, and a photograph.
Artists represented in the exhibition are April Gornik, David Graham, Kong Ho, Susan B. Howard,
Indigene, Ned Wert, Chris Nissen, Robert Patierno, Jacques Reich, and Chris Zmijewski.
Indigene (Theresa Gaskin), a local resident of Ardmore, PA has been an artist for over fifteen years. She is also currently the Resident Director of “A Better Chance – Lower Merion” located in Ardmore, PA and has taught art classes at the former “Senior Citizen Center of Ardmore”. The art work selected, “Glimpse for the eXpressway” was inspired by the rapid serial views one gets of the Philadelphia Art Museum while driving by on the Schuykill Expressway in Philadelphia, PA. The painting will be on exhibit for approximately two and half years, on loan from a private collector.
Since 1964 the U.S. Department of State’s Art in Embassies Program has been exhibiting original works of art by U.S. citizens in the public rooms of American diplomatic residences worldwide. These exhibitions provide international audiences with a sense of the quality, scope, and diversity of American art and culture.
